The Mission
How often do we plan something and then fail to achieve our goal… For whatever reason: ran out of money, missed the deadline, too rushed, too slow. That’s frustraiting. You lose control of your project, lose perspective. Does this sound familiar?
Of course you know that you are not the only one suffering from these problems. Many people, even big companies are losing their grip on THEIR projects. As an expert in my own field (I am a manager of many IT projects) I can say that in 96% of unsuccessful cases the fault lies with the managing tactics.
The Internet, as well as magazines and books, provide help in professional development. This help is aimed at reducing the number of failures by teaching people how to choose objectives, how to manage time and how to increase professional output. This is all very good, but none of them offer an ultimate action plan that will make your project work 100%. Believe you me, the bag has got a lot more tricks that can be pulled out at the right time and at the right place.
I think, the proof is in the know-how of the project management which is mostly about taking control and not letting go. Even if you hire somebody to do the management job for you, you still need to manage these people, i. e. stear them in the right direction.
Project management as a science was concieved in the 1930s, when certain methods of management used by the US Air Corporation and by Exxon company did wonders. But the actual stepping stone for the new management tactics was the Polaris project, which was the construction and building of a submarine in the beginning of the 1950s.
Nowadays the project approach to business activities is a standard. People who can plan and coordinate the project effectively are very much in demand.
This blog is designed for everybody, not just for professional project managers. I will try and keep the language and examples plain and simple. However, if you find some of it challenging, use the comments box and ask me to explain anything that isn’t clear.
I do hope that the methods and knowledge I am going to share with you will make you more efficient in your performance and ultimately help you to achieve your goals without missing a deadline and/or blowing your budget.
